In January 2022, the Future Ready Iowa Employer Innovation Fund awarded Stonehill a grant to grow the workforce in healthcare in long-term care. Grant funds of $46,000 and equal matching funds contributed by Stonehill will pay for tuition costs for new or current employees pursuing their Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Medication Aide (CMA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credentials. The funding will cover tuition of approximately $5,200 for 10 future LPN’s or RN’s; a $450 course for CMA's, and classes/testing for 50 new CNA’s, at a cost $800 per person.
With a growing aging population and workforce challenges, we believe it is crucial to provide opportunities for individuals to enter the healthcare field, including those who may not have post-secondary education, those with financial barriers to education, and those who may not have considered a career in healthcare.
There are no eligibility limitations for employees working toward a CNA in the Future Ready program. Individuals wishing to pursue a CMA or LPN/RN must be employed at Stonehill in a full-time or part-time capacity. Stonehill is an equal opportunity employer.
Employees receiving funding for LPN or RN courses are required to maintain full or part-time employment at Stonehill for 12 months following completion of paid courses.
With our CNA Fast Track program, no prior experience is necessary. Stonehill is able to hire employees and help them begin their healthcare career. New employees are able to build relationships with peers in their field and earn an income while they are enrolled in training. Individuals are paid as CNA's and receive on-the-job training with our CNA mentor, a veteran member of our Nursing team, on CNA clinical and job duties and responsibilities. The Future Ready grant funding will pay the full cost of CNA classes and the certification exam.
CNA certification is the first step in a healthcare career. The 80-hour CNA course prepares students for employment as a nurse aide. For those who wish to continue growing in their nursing career, it fulfills the prerequisite for admission into the Northeast Iowa Community College nursing program. The fast-paced combination of classroom (or virtual classroom), hands-on lab and off-site clinical experience addresses basic nursing and personal care skills, patient rights and communication. Special attention to mental, physical and social health of geriatric and special populations is included.
